Job Description
The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Analytics is looking for a Biostatistician II! This position is responsible for the analysis of healthcare data including Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) enrollment data. It is a long-term, fulltime assignment that pays up to $36.84 an hour.
A Biostatistician II must provide quality assurance and oversight of the data being sent to the US Census Bureau and assist with development and preparation of analyses related to SNAP caseload data as well as preparing monthly and quarterly caseload forecasts for DHHS programs.
This position maintains data quality and control and completes all requests related to claims data from internal and external partners within specified timeframes, in a fast-paced working environment under minimal supervision.
This position requires the demonstrated use of statistical methods and programs utilizing SAS and STATA analytic software.
Essential Functions:
1. Ensure data validity and reliability, trend the data, work to ensure SNAP longitudinal data is collected and posted and submit to the US Census Bureau. Create and manage a dashboard for high level “easy access” availability of the data and the Biostatistician will ensure that data requests are fulfilled.
2. Provide quality assurance and oversight of the data being sent to the US Census Bureau, on the dashboard as high-level trending information, as well as review the information that is collected by multiple agency partners to validate.
3. Complete all requests for related assigned data from internal and external partners within the specified timeframe. Includes contacting the requestor to get full details of the data needed, preparation of the data in the requested format, and any necessary follow up to ensure the requestor has what they need.
4. Provide routine and special reports and extracts of data for evaluation reports, as required.
5. Complete data linkages between applicable data sets and summarize the output into the requested format.
6. Ensure complete and high-quality data through regular quality assurance activities and data cleaning.
7. Participate in meetings, trainings, and conferences as requested by supervisor, management, and agency leadership.
8. Maintain a work schedule as approved by management.
9. Maintain data systems including daily processing of data and reports, consult with IT and contractors on system updates and issues, and perform system troubleshooting.
10. Collaborate with staff from the Department of Health and Human Services and the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services such as establishing quality control procedures and developing formats for regular reports.
11. Demonstrate ability to willingly accept instructions, constructive criticism and maintain harmonious work relationships with others.
12. Demonstrate ability to consider all facts leading to a logical conclusion.
13. Demonstrate willingness to take on added responsibility and originate or develop new and better ways of doing things.
14. Effectively provide and receive peer review of work and maintain data-deliverable and documentation standards.
15. Provide technical support to staff, as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in statistics, mathematics, or closely related field and one year of professional experience conducting statistical analysis including gathering and analyzing data from various sources using computer software; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional Position Criteria
• Experience using SAS and STATA software is required.
• Experience creating dashboards.
